Monthly $25 Teachers pay Teachers Gift Card Giveaway & a Special Request

I am enjoying my summer vacation and the much needed time for relaxation!  But... that hasn't stopped me from planning, thinking about next year, and of course perusing Teachers pay Teachers for more products and ideas!  If you are anything like me, you would love to win a $25 Teachers Pay Teachers gift card!  Well, lucky you, because it is time for my monthly giveaway!  All you  have to do is use the Rafflecoptor below to enter.

Now onto, my special request... My son, Palmer is an aspiring film maker living in Los Angeles.  When he was in high school, he won the state competition in film making through his drama class.  you can view the film below (but be prepared with some tissues as you watch).

He is currently working on a new project and has a Kickstarter campaign going for it right now.  He has reached the funding level he needed to get the project off the ground, but is now hoping to reach one of his stretch goals, and to get the word out about his project. In order to do that, he needs to get as many donors as he can (even with small $1 and $5 donations). In fact, the more small donations he gets, the better in terms of getting his message out.  Would you take the time to check out his project?

If you would be so inclined to share it and donate to the campaign I would greatly appreciate it! I will sweeten the deal by giving you a FREE product!  If you donate $1 you may choose any item in my store for $5 or less.  If you donate $5 you may choose any item in my store for $10 or less. Simply email me at kellys3ps@sbcglobal.net with the item you would like.

End of the Year Awards - Kids' Choice Awards

Our school has quarterly awards ceremonies to honor students with perfect attendance, honor roll, citizenship, etc., but I wanted to do something a little different for the end of the year.  My own boys love the Kids' Choice Awards on Nickelodeon each year, so, I thought this would be a fun way to do my end of year awards/celebration.

The kids had an absolute blast as well!

We decorated our sad end of the year room with balloons (from Dollar Tree) and a red carpet (bulletin board paper).

One of the students wrote this on the board to kick us off.  I need to work on apostrophes apparently, but I have the same kiddos next year, so we have time! LOL!

The packet comes with pages for the students to vote for each other.  I asked them to vote for one of their classmates for each category.  The top nominees were then tallied by some of my fast finishers, and checked by me to make sure that each student received an award from their peers.  They really took the voting seriously and even had a few spirited debates.  I loved the time and thought they put into it.

In keeping with the Kids' Choice theme, I also had them run the show during the "ceremony".  Each student chose an award to give out.  I purchased small Dollar Tree items to go with each award.

The students really took their presenting jobs seriously and they were genuinely proud of each student award winner!

I really got a kick out of how on the spot their winner choices were!

Currently June 2015

Woo Hoo!  Today is my first official day of summer!  I was very sad to see my kiddos go on Friday, but I am happy for the break and happy that I will see them again in the fall as I am looping with them to 4th grade!  I appreciated the gifts and love they poured on me as well!

It is also the first day of June, which means it is time to link up with Farley for Currently!

My 19 year old (who moved to Los Angeles last fall) came to visit for graduation.  We were so excited to see him, and Tyler was especially excited to show off how much he had grown since Palmer left.

When I went into my classroom today, I found these laptops on one of the tables.  Another teacher who has been using them is getting iPads, so we now have a class set.  I am excited for the possibilities!  Any suggestions?

And speaking of iPads, I decided to get a new one and pass my old one down to my boys.  I am so excited!

Be sure to head over to her blog to share what you are Currently doing, and to make a donation to Wimberley!

What Works Teacher Appreciation Giveaway

In honor of Teacher Appreciation Week, several of my blogging friends have gotten together to share some of our best teaching secrets as well as two AMAZING prize bundles.

The work we do in our classrooms, while sometimes unappreciated, is so, so important to the future of our communities!
While I am not a pack rat or into hard-core recycling by any means, I hate throwing away things that can be re-used. My first tip involves those extras that sometimes come with various TpT products.

For example, the picture above is a laminated sheet of some Fly Guy sight word flash cards I made for some of my students.  See those 4 empty cards?? I hate throwing away the card stock and laminate. So... I use them!

They are already laminated, so they make a perfect dry-erase surface for extra problems for my students.  I will often write problems on them to use with my small groups.  Sometimes I give each student a problem to solve independently, and other times they all solve the same problem.  I can quickly erase them and re-use them over and over again. They can easily be adapted for differentiation as well.

I have also used them as reminders or scaffolds for skills we are working on, such as having a beginning, middle, and end when we retell a story.

My second tip involves one of my favorite office supplies - book rings.  When I was in high school and college I used these to make my own flash cards for studying.  Now I use them in my classroom for just about everything!

I use them to label my book boxes.

For Sight Words.
For math facts.

I also use them to keep sample problems and lesson plans close at hand.

And now... time for the giveaway!!!
